Jane French, Centre Manager and Tiffany Nay, Science Communications & Education Coordinator, recently had the incredible opportunity to attend Science Meets Parliament 2026 in Canberra, joining leading researchers, policymakers and industry voices from across Australia.
Science Meets Parliament is Australia’s premier initiative for fostering meaningful connections between the STEM sector and policymakers.
Over two inspiring days, they engaged in meaningful conversations about the critical role of science in shaping national policy, advocating for evidence-based decision making, and strengthening connections between research and government.

The experience provided valuable insights into how we can better communicate the impact of our work and elevate the importance of long-term investment in science—particularly for regions like the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth.
We’re excited to bring these learnings back to the CLLMM Research Centre and continue building strong relationships that support the future of our research, partnerships and community outcomes.
Whilst in Canberra, Jane also spent time in Parliament House—where the real work happens—meeting with Senator Andrew McLachlan to discuss the important work and future of the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth Research Centre.
The conversation provided a valuable opportunity to highlight the Centre’s impact, ongoing research, and the importance of continued support for this vital program.
Senator McLachlan has been an ever-present advocate of the CLLMM Research Centre, and his voice has been critical in keeping a spotlight on us in the political sphere.
