Ministers, senator visit the Centre with new listing for the region announced

It was a pleasure to host Minister Watt, Minister Wong, and Senator Walker at the CLLMM Research Centre this month for the announcement that the Lower Murray has been listed as a critically endangered ecological community.

We were honoured by the Ministers’ and Senator’s generous acknowledgement of the CLLMM Research Centre’s work, and their recognition of the vital role independent science contributes to guiding recovery and long-term management of this nationally significant region.

This marks the second visit for Federal Environment Minister Murray Watt this month. We were thrilled to welcome him to the Centre for the first time in early January and showcase the breadth of our research and activities.

The visit highlighted the value of locally led, collaborative science in supporting healthy waterways, informed decision-making, and strong connections between community and Country. We appreciated the opportunity to share how our work is contributing to positive environmental outcomes for the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth region.

We’d like to thank Minister Watt for taking the time to visit and engage with our team. A special thanks also to Julie Jones and Uncle Lawrie Agius for joining us to represent our community and First Nations audiences.
