Goolwa Secondary students, university students present scientific posters at Centre

On 13 November, the CLLMM Research Centre hosted a poster presentation night, where students from Goolwa Secondary College, UniSA, Flinders University and the University of Adelaide shared their research findings.

Four Goolwa Secondary students were matched with research mentors as part of the Centre’s education program. Each student worked with their mentor to research a question of their choosing and then learnt how to create and present a scientific poster. The posters were displayed around the Centre, where students presented their work to family, friends, mentors and Centre staff.

Goolwa Secondary students and their research topics

  • Avery – Native fish release
  • Mia – Producing a native revegetation plan
  • Emily – Dune movement and vegetation
  • Beth – Sharks and the algal bloom

The Goolwa Secondary students were joined by four Honours students, who are supported by the Centre and supervised by Centre collaborators:

  • Andrew Persian, University of South Australia honours student – Civilians and Scientists: What happens when communities lead conversations?
  • James Hensel, University of Adelaide honours student – Investigating methane cycling conditions & fluxes across a salinity gradient.
  • Anara Watson, Flinders University honours student – The Ramsar convention in the face of climate change
  • Thai Quang Le, Flinders University honours student – The impact of climate change on phytoplankton communities

We’d like to congratulate all of the students for their hard work and excellent poster presentations.
