The CLLMM Research Centre has developed a state-of-the-art virtual reality (VR) platform to help the general public better appreciate and understand the unique cultural, environmental, economic, and social values of the Coorong, Lower Lakes, and Murray Mouth (CLLMM) region. This immersive tool also supports informed planning and decision-making for the region’s future.
The VR platform complements field visits by allowing users to explore the region in greater detail than is possible on the ground. Through an intuitive and interactive experience, users can access a wide range of information via four key portals:
Natural History
Current Conditions and the Millennium Drought (1998–2010)
Benefits of Environmental Flows
Climate Futures
Users can examine environmental water provision scenarios—such as habitat availability for key species—and explore future climate conditions to support both short- and long-term planning.
The platform also enables researchers to design and present science projects, helping to communicate findings and potential responses to climate change (e.g. adaptation strategies) to the wider community.
Equipped with mobile facilities, the VR platform is a flexible resource that can be used across all engagement activities of the Research Centre—including community science forums, school education programs, and events outside the region.
